Reviewed November 20190.90ha at 26 hl/ha delivered 10 barrels. I know that Les Chaumes is not the sexiest 1er cru in Vosne-Romanée, but please pay attention to this one! This has a deeper fresher colour and a superb weight of fruit where the whole bunch effect is in the background. A much more vibrant raspberry/strawberry cross. A sweet weight of fruit with the white pepper behind, this is absolutely complete, a masterpiece for Chaumes. Exceptional aftertaste with a perfect fine-grained tannic grip. *5 Stars*

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a winsome bouquet of perfumed raspberry, crushed strawberry and rose petal aromas that boast exquisite delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, vibrant red and black fruit and a very linear, vivid finish that conveys a sense of coiled energy. Superb. (NM)

Close to La Tache, Les Chaumes has fairly rich clay soils, which is reflected in the weightiness of the wine. However, the nose is perky and lively, with bright cherry and raspberry fruit. Bold tannins ensure there is more grip and depth than the upfront nose suggests. There's an underlying limpidity but no lack of structure. The finish is long, with lingering Indian spices. (SB)
