A lively, precise and textural Crozes-Hermitage with aromas of dark cherries, black pepper, purple flowers and a touch of roasted meat. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Refined and agile, with a succulent finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Made from 100% Syrah, the 2023 Crozes-Hermitage is a classic wine in the vintage with its upfront, perfumed, spicy style. Red, blue, and black fruits, peppery herbs, potpourri, and spice notes all shine, and it's medium-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, soft tannins, and outstanding length.

Vinified from certified organic grapes, the strait-laced 2023 Crozes-Hermitage checks in at 13% alcohol. Spice box, blackberry and cedar notes are all amplified here, complemented by a citric flicker of grapefruit. Medium-bodied and concentrated, the tasty 2023 hits the palate with lovely intensity and checks out with staying power on the precise finish. (NG)

Gorgeous balance with ripe cherry and raspberry fruit. There is a burst of savory herbs which firmly plants you in the Northern Rhone. Great long finish. A tremendous new arrival for our Direct Import program.

Stunning Northern Rhone Syrah! Textbook aromas of freshly ground black pepper and violets burst from the glass. The palate is supple and textural, black bruit and spice dominate but don't overwhelm. It's an incredible wine to pair with grilled meats, the hints of bacon fat in wine compliment charred flavors of meat. Superb wine that overperforms for sure.

I tasted every Yann Chave wine we have in stock and they, red and whites alike, are united by their elegance, depth, and complexity. Easily my favorite lineup of northern Rhone wines in a long time. I was impressed by their consistent artistry and quality. Starting with this steal of a Syrah at $29.99, the 2023 Yann Chave Crozes Hermitage Rouge is the type of Syrah that makes you remember instantly why northern Rhone Syrah is the world wide benchmark for this native variety. Beautiful, delicate, aromatic, and ready to be enjoyed in its exuberant youth, the nose is layered with dark red fruit, red licorice, blueberry, chocolate, vanilla bean, and blackberries. On the palate, light to medium bodied with flavors of mint, ripe silky red and blue fruit, smoke, and black pepper. This wine is bursting with aromatics and flavors. A must try - along with the other Chave wines!

Notes

Domaine Yann Chave is a family-run estate located in the heart of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation, with holdings also on the esteemed Hermitage hillside. Founded in the early 1970s by Nicole and Bernard Chave, the domaine began with a mix of vineyards and fruit orchards. After taking over in 1996, Yann Chave shifted focus exclusively to viticulture, restructuring the vineyards and eventually transitioning the estate to organic farming—an effort sparked by a personal experience with chemical poisoning. Certified organic since 2007, the estate now spans 20 hectares, and Yann’s thoughtful, detail-driven approach—shaped in part by his background in rugby—balances technical precision with deep respect for the land and future generations. This cuvée blends Syrah from estate parcels in La Roche de Glun, Mercurol, and Pont de l’Isère to capture the essence of the vintage and the character of the Crozes-Hermitage appellation—fruit-forward, vibrant, and elegant. Grapes are destemmed and gently extracted through pump-overs during a 3–4 week maceration at moderate temperatures (20–28°C). The wine is then aged for 10 months in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and purity. The result is a fresh, supple Syrah with notes of blackberry, cherry, black pepper, and a touch of menthol. The tannins are fine and numerous, lending depth without heaviness, and the finish is long, fruit-driven, and graceful.
