Beautifully pure stone fruits, pineapple, minty herbs, and floral notes all emerge from the 2023 Vacqueyras Blanc, a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, textured white that has the ripe yet balanced, elegant style of the vintage. Its purity of fruit is spot on. A blend of 40% Clairette, 40% Grenache Blanc, 10% Marsanne, and 10% Roussanne, it was vinified with one-third in new barrels and two-thirds in stainless steel, with four months of aging in barrel.

Vinified from certified organic grapes, the 2023 Vacqueyras Blanc shows well. Honeysuckle, linden blossom, lemon flesh, yellow apple and peachy nuances emerge. Concentrated, round and balanced by bright acidity, the 2023 is a delightful white Vacqueyras concluding with moderate duration on the uplifting finish. (NG)

Vacqueyras Blanc is a rare bird indeed. This region has only just scratched the surface on the white category with less than 10% of the production in white wine. The Ganse Blanc is showing great with its rich aromas of yellow plum, dried pear, lemon meringue and white nectarines. Notes of beeswax and a touch of spice add to the complexity. I love where white Rhone wines are going right now, and this is a fun place to start your journey down this path.

Notes

Coralie Onde is from the winemaking family behind Domaine les Ondines, but opted to start her own project independent of her family estate in 2008. She formed Domaine de la Ganse in Vacqueyras when she purchased some terrific old vine fruit, also taking a small holding when the family estate was split. With close to nine hectares now, Coralie began the organic certification process and was officially certified in 2014. Her vines are aged from fifteen to fifty-five years and the soils are primarily chalky-clay with some galet (river stones). The Vacqueyras Blanc is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Marsanne from destemmed bunches. Fermentation and aging is about 1/3 in new barrels and 2/3 in stainless steel tank.
