Reviewed January 2023The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes (Rouge) has an open bouquet with pretty brambly red fruit and a touch of damp earth. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, taut and fresh, maybe just needing a little more matière on the finish yet there is plenty of freshness. (NM)

Lightish ruby purple with a very pleasing floral and fruit forward bouquet. Attractive from the start but obviously low key. The fruit does follow all the way through and the tannins are tamed. All destemmed.

A super-fresh and very pinot-like nose speaks mostly of various red berries, pepper and earth. The sleek, vibrant and nicely detailed middleweight flavors display good if not special length on the mildly rustic and persistent finale. This is largely built on its fruit though there is enough stuffing to repay a few years of keeping if desired. A competent Chassagne villages.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Rouge delivers aromas of orange rind, red berries, petals and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's supple and giving in style. (WK)
