James Suckling
Reviewed September 2023This richly textural, but only medium-bodied, Gaisberg dry riesling has an exciting thread of flinty minerality woven into it. Delicate stone fruit aromas in the nose, but at the finish candied orange peel mingles with the stony character and leesy complexity. Made for the long term. Sustainable. Drink or hold.

Vinous
The 2021 Riesling Ried Gaisberg is on gneiss, schist and amphibolite. Crushed ivy and citrus leaf overlay an almost savory, salty notion of wet earth. The palate is rounded and juicy—almost bouncy with lively energy. Bright, lemon-fringed stone fruit notes skip away in such a joyful fashion that the underlying stony seriousness is almost skipped over. In coming years, the stoniness will gain the upper hand, but, for now, the playfulness of these aromas—leafy top notes and citric charm—quite rightly enjoy the limelight. This is lovely and slender, with a serious, stony, cool core and a beautifully long finish. (Bone-dry)(AK)

Wine Advocate
The 2021 Ried Gaisberg 1ÖTW offers a clear, very aromatic, finely spiced, dense and yeasty nose with partly concentrated and overripe fruit notes. It is elegant and juicy on the palate as well as intense and delicately creamy, with well-integrated acidity. It has a complex, well-structured and salty finish with good length. This is a surprisingly baroque style for this vintage and with corresponding richness. It is quite loud overall but still young. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at Schloss Grafenegg, September 2023.(SR)

Wine Enthusiast
This starts out rather ripe and languid, with honeysuckle and heather accents draping over the creamed apple, and white-raspberry notes. A light echo of quinine lingers on the well-defined finish. The acidity is the spine that adds extra length as this keeps rolling. (AZ)
Notes
95 points Fallstaff Magazine: "Bright golden yellow, silver reflections. Dark minerality, delicate savouriness, a hint of yellow tropical fruit, some white stone fruit, a bit of mango, backed with blossom honey. Good complexity, juicy, taut, balanced acidity, kumquats and peach in the finish, fine caramel touch, remains very well lasting. Complex food wine with certain ageing potential.-Peter Moser"(03/2023)
