The Old Fashioned Traditional Dark rum from Planteray (formerly Plantation) is a recreation of the most traditional style of English rums, bottled at a full 20 points over proof. The big, rich pot still style that was popular in the age of the sail is all but lost to the modern age of light and flavored rums. Thankfully a group of cocktail historians and industry professionals have worked to bring it back to life. The salty band of misfits brought together by Maison Ferrand's Alexander Gabriel are famous in tiki circles and beyond: Jeff Berry, Martin Cate, Paul McFadyen, Paul McGee, Scott Schuder, and David Wondrich. They blended heavy, dark rums from Barbados, Guyana, and Jamaica and bottled it at a blistering 138 proof, which is perfect for punch grog and tiki alike.
