Earthy depths come forward from the Sequitur Vineyard Pinot Noir, from the Ribbon Ridge site that abuts the Beaux Fréres estate, where Hundred Suns winemaker Grant Coulter once made the wines. This multi-clonal selection of Pinot Noir was planted by Beaux Fréres founder Mike Etzel. Turned earth and smoky violet notes mingle alongside aromas of sweet black fig and wild anise. The palate delivers concentration with generous ripe black bramble fruits, an exotic blend of brown spices and rooibos tea leaves. It's savoury, rich and delicious in a package of elegance.

From an acre of an Etzel vineyard in Ribbon Ridge, the 2022 Pinot Noir Sequitur Vineyard displays a darker hue and exhibits Ribbon Ridge character with an earthier profile of ripe black cherries, lifted spices, forest herbs, and dark stones. It has a good deal of structure, with a bit of high-toned tension on the palate, more energetic acidity, ripe, defined tannins, and a snappy feel. It’s going to need another year or two in bottle, then drink over the following 15 years. 94+

I find this bottling to be the darkest and the deepest of the awesome Hundred Suns line of Pinot Noir. Subdued black cherries and perfumed spice. Dark red fruits, clean cedar wood, minerals, chalk and a long, red-fruited finish. Absolutely stunning!
Notes
From one of the most highly regarded vineyard plantings in the state, Sequitur was established by Mike Etzel and Carey Critchlow (of Beaux Freres). The vineyard sits next to Beaux Freres' Upper Terrace Vineyard at 450ft elevation in Ribbon Ridge. Soils are ancient marine sediment. The vineyard has been farmed organically and biodynamically since inception. Fermented 33% whole-cluster with 22 day on skins.
