Reviewed January 2021A more deeply pitched and spicier nose speaks of various dark berries, violet, sandalwood and hoisin. The very rich and generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors possess an opulent mid-palate, yet the finish is precise, compact, restrained and youthfully austere. Like the Poisets, this is a simply terrific villages level Vosne and is also highly recommended. *Outstanding*

Dense dark crimson. The bouquet is surprisingly blocky after the grace of the earlier wines. Charles Lachaux feels that this is typical of the vineyard, offering more power than the softer Nuits-St-Georges Les Poisets. Darker fruit throughout, more muscle, less elegance. Some tannins behind, rich dark fruit, stopping short of chocolate notes, just. Good acidity too.

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières has an exquisitely defined bouquet with transparent red cherries and crushed strawberry on the nose, very harmonious with light sous-bois aromas percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine backbone, almost a Malconsorts-lite (not written pejoratively I might add!) But there is impressive grip here for a Village Cru with pleasing salinity on the finish. (NM)
