Reviewed November 2018Nicolas Groffier's 1ha parcel is planted with 80-year-old vines with lots of small berries (millerands), and it always makes an intensely fruity Chambolle with good underlying structure. Made with 100% whole bunches, this shows a remarkable lightness of touch, all sap, perfume and delicately integrated oak. (TA)

Wine Spectator
A focused, fruity style, with an underpinning of mineral and racy acidity defining the cherry, raspberry, smoke and spice flavors. Balanced and long, echoing the spice and stone notes on the finish. (BS)

80 year old vines, 100% whole cluster, 25% new oak. Purple with a dense centre. But the bouquet shows a huge fruit intensity and not the stems. Only 30cm of soil but it is a clay that speaks, marvellous intensity of deep red cherry fruit, good acidity in balance, this is impressive. Good freshness and the potential for long keeping.

Vinous
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 1er Cru is very reduced on the nose and not as clean as I would like, coming across a little funky. The medium-bodied palate offers chewy tannins and good weight. Quite muscular, with raspberry and cranberry notes toward the slightly austere, Morey-like finish, which leaves a pleasant peppery aftertaste. I would afford this three years in bottle before broaching, because it could coalesce into a very fine Chambolle. (NM) 92+
