Reviewed February 2023I love the fragrance and the silky generosity of this 2021 vintage Chiroubles. Effusive aroma of violets. Long finish that’s beautifully supported by the fine tannins. Minimal sulfur addition and bottle unfiltered. Drink or hold.

Vinous
The 2021 Chiroubles Indigène comes from vines at around 430m in altitude, meaning maturity comes 10 days later than average in Beaujolais with greater phenolic maturity. It undergoes natural fermentation and includes just 10mg/L of sulphites and no filtration. It is quite broody and introspective on the nose with dark berry fruit, graphite and light autumn leaf scents - quite complex. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins and gentle grip - not as complex as the aromatics but with a pleasing, slightly savory finish. Moderate length. Very fine. (NM)

. Made without added sulfur, this
wine has vibrant red fruits from its short time in
tank. It is juicy and light in texture, with fresh red
cherry flavors. Drink the wine from 2024
Notes
Château de Javernand "Indigène" Chiroubles consists of native yeast fermented Gamay sourced from 30-year-old plots. Whole clusters underwent a 10-day carbonic maceration. The finished wine was bottled unfiltered with no added sulfites with only 5,000 bottles produced. Founded in 1971, Château de Javernand is currently run by fifth generation winegrowers, Pierre Prost and Arthur Fourneau.
