A very attractive red now, with complexity and yummy drinkability. It’s medium-bodied with medium, round tannins that are fresh and more-ish. It’s dusty and lightly earthy with dark currants as well as tobacco. So much going on, in a subtle and refreshing way. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 10% petit verdot, and 5% malbec. Drink or hold.

Enticing aromas of black cherry, blueberry, black liquorice, coffee and dried herbs with cedar freshness. Broad and expansive palate with the same flavours as the nose, combining with a rich vein of minerals, dried rose petals, tobacco, refreshing acidity and mouthcoating tannins. From winemaker Trevor Durling. (JC)

Deep black-fruit flavors, moderate tannins and a sense of good density make this wine from one of Napa's oldest producers impressive. Cloves, cedar, blackberries and a touch of anise combine for good complexity on the palate. Best from 2026–2032. (JG) *Top 100 Cellar Selection for 2022*

Coming mostly from estate fruit, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is another plush, rounded, undeniably delicious release. Ripe blue fruits, spicy oak, and hints of chocolate define the nose, and it' s medium to full-bodied, with a layered, round, incredibly satisfying mouthfeel. I like it now, but it should evolve gracefully for 10-15 years as well.

This relatively new wine from BV builds on a 100+ year legacy of Rutherford wines. Designed as a mini Georges de Latour, the Reserve level Rutherford bottling pulls fruit from those same original ranches that have bolstered this property for many decades issuing forth some of the most legendary wines in the history of Napa. The 2018 release of this wine was one of our best selling Cabs of 2022 and I'm just thrilled to now offer the 2019 at the same sharp price and with the same huge critical acclaim. What's more, the big scores are totally warranted, there's a lot of substance in this bottle - real, pedigreed Napa fruit. The wine explodes from the glass with liquored cherry, crème de cassis, mulberry, new leather, briary tones, that classic loamy dust element is present, too! Abundant fruit and beautifully ripe tannins, but a solid, tactile grip and powerful structure hold it all together very nicely in BV's timeless style. I should also note that this wines' "big brother" the 2019 BV "Georges de Latour" was awarded multiple perfect 100-point scores from renowned critics and was named as James Suckling's No. 1 Wine of the Year in 2022. Evidently the team at BV led by winemaker Trevor Durling are doing everything right and making full use of their essentially unrivalled Rutherford estates. All things considered, it's pretty remarkable we can still offer this wine out for under $60!
