Reviewed February 2022Massolino envisages its Langhe Nebbiolo as a 'baby Barolo'. The winemaking is no different, other than a shorter maceration and ageing (just 12 months in Slavonian oak). Restrained and complex, the moderate temperature of fermentation seems to jump out of the glass with a peachy aroma enhanced by a strawberry vibrancy and savoury liquorice in depth. This Nebbiolo is focused on delicacy, showing ripe tannins with a dusty finish and refreshing, integrated acidity. Incredibly precise and signature definition, with a moderate length. (AF)

The 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo is gorgeous. The open, soaring bouquet is immediately arresting. Crushed red berry fruit, spice, cinnamon, dried flowers and kirsch are all finely knit. All the elements are so well balanced. Readers on a budget will adore this. The 2020 is a blend of fruit from Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero and Alba. It spent a bit more than a year in cask. Best of all, the Nebbiolo is one of Massolino's largest production wines, so it should be relatively easy to source. (AG)
