James Suckling
Reviewed March 2022The intensity of the forest-berry fruit on the nose must be experienced to be believed! And when you look closer, there are also notes of bitter chocolate and dried sage. On the sleek and super-focused palate, the fruit doesn’t let up and is married to a delicate mineral note that gives this so much energy at the supernaturally refreshing finish.

The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py is one of the region's most dependable classics, unfurling in the glass with notes of cassis, sweet berry fruit, spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a seamless, complete profile, it concludes with a long, mouthwatering finish. (WK)

The 2020 Morgon Côte du Py represents a blend of six hectares from around the climat, each with its own attributes. It has an intense bouquet of black cherries, black olive and saline notes, all very well defined with wonderful focus. The palate is medium-bodied with silky-smooth tannins, superb mineralité and a harmonious finish featuring black cherries, blueberry, blood orange and citrus fruit, full of nervosité and admirably persistent. Burgaud said that he had been advised to bottle the various plots separately, but I think this blend represents more than the sum of its parts. (NM)

A blend across 7 hectares of Côte du Py, vinified across 12 to 14 days and bottled in July. A little denser purple, a little sterner on the nose. Plums and strawberry up front on the palate, smoother and richer, very succulent. Every orientation, south for the fruit, top for the tannin and freshness. *4 stars*

Very mineral and spicy Morgon! With elegant red fruit and firm structure, it's a good wine to age for a few years. It has bright acidity and deep flavors reminiscent of macerated plums and cherries with touch of mulberry note to it.
