Baltic Porters are hard to come by, and this one really showcases how wonderful this obscure porter style can be. Rich, full bodied, and complex with notes of tobacco, leather, stewed plums, dried figs, and treacle on the nose. Dark stone fruit, espresso, and molasses are the more prominent notes on the palate. Pohjala makes some killer beers, and this one does not disappoint!
Notes
Põhjala began in Tallinn in 2011 and later established its brewery and taproom in the city’s historic Noblessner shipyard district. Must Kuld—Estonian for “black gold”—is the brewery’s Baltic porter, presented in a 330ml bottle and named in the language of its homeland.
