I loved the 2018 Chardonnay Santa Barbara County. This beauty has terrific notes of spiced orchard fruits, salted citrus, mint, and sappy herbs as well as a clean, medium-bodied, racy style on the palate.

Tightly woven and sharp on the nose, this bottling, which sources from owner John Wagner's multiple vineyards across the region, offers aromas of grapefruit peel and Meyer lemon pith. There's a hint of dairy on the palate, where crisp Asian pear and sea-salt flavors lead into a toasty brioche-like finish. *Editors' Choice* (MK)

The 2018 Chardonnay (Santa Barbara County) is airy and graciously light on its feet, with tropical accents of tangerine oil, citrus peel and white flowers that lift effortlessly as the wine opens up. Bright and energetic, the 2018 is a very pretty wine, especially in its peer group. (AG)

Notes

John and Jill Wagner have built what is arguably one of the finest new wine estates in Santa Barbara county. We first met John Wagner a few years ago at a local wine dinner. Afterwards he invited us up to his scenic property situated along the south side of the Santa Ynez River. They've cut no corners in building a winery designed to make the best wines possible from both their estate vineyards surrounding the winery as well as the John Sebastiano Vineyard which John co-owns. Paul Lato joined the team from the start and has crafted some of the most compelling Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from the region. Gradually, Wynn Solomon has taken over more and more of the winemaking duties with the '18s being a shared effort by these two masters. Bear in mind that John was raised in Ventura county where his family grew lemons and avocados. He's got farming in his blood and the results are in the bottle. Wine critic Jeb Dunnuck had this to say about Peake Ranch; "these are incredible wines...readers need to get on this estate's bandwagon!" At K&L, we are firmly on the bandwagon!
