2014 Mal Bien Black Tape "Tomás + Emiliano Gutierrez" K&L Exclusive Batch 0414TG Papalote (Cupreata) Madurado En Vidrio Tepehuixco, Chilapa de Alvarez Guerrero Agave Spirits (Uncertified Mezcal) (750ml)

The Guerrero region has only been minimally explored by the mezcal loving public. For those in the know, no name in the region resonates more than Tomas Gutierrez of Sanzekan fame. If you're an agave nerd then you know exactly what we're talking about. If not, Sanzekan is a small cooperative of mezcal producers in and around the communities of Chilapa de Alvarez. They're renowned for some of the highest quality production anywhere in Mexico, but the brand is not sold outside of Mexico. Now for the first time ever, Mal Bien has managed to secure stocks from several of the members of this extremely sought-after group. We've likewise secured this incredible, exclusive batch from Tomas which rested in glass garrafones for 7 years before bottling. Distilled in April of 2014 from extremely high quality Cupreata harvested by Gutierrez's own hands. The Gutierrez Family credits the quality of their plants with the undeniably high caliber of their mezcal. The plants are roasted underground for 8 days over Encino, Tepozcahuite, and Tepehuaje wood. Milled in a wood chipper then naturally fermented in Ayacahuite tanks for 6 days using local spring water. It was twice distilled on small 200L copper stills and proof adjusted using heads and tails (puntas y colas). The years in glass have mellowed this mezcal, but it retains the classic notes of chocolate & chile that Tomas is known for. We may never see another mezcal as special as this incredible batch. Only 120 bottles available at K&L.
