The 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese (Gold Capsule) is precise and fresh in its concentrated yet delicate fruit and lemon aromas. Round and intense yet delicate on the palate, this is a dense, piquant and salty, vital and very stimulating Auslese based on early botrytized grapes. The concentration and sweetness is still dominant here and asks for patience. (SR)

Katarina Prüm’s 2019 Goldkapsel Auslese from the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr is gorgeous, as the botrytis here is very clean and pure. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a refined blend of pear, white cherry, tangerine, honeycomb, a nice foundation of slate and honeysuckle in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, precise, medium-full and still quite youthful, with a lovely core, excellent bounce and grip and a very long, very promising finish. This is a lovely wine in the making, but it needs time in the cellar to open up and display its secondary layers of complexity.

Pungent but introvert nose. Delicate but sweet with wild-hedgerow aromas. This is very pretty indeed. Already quite evolved. So feather-light! 17.5/20 points (JR)

Notes

94 points Mosel Fine Wines: "The 2019er Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese GK is a noble-sweet wine which proves slightly reductive at first (there is a touch of SO2) and needs a few minutes in the glass to fully develop its aromatics. It then reveals its magnificently restrained and ripe nose made of whipped cream, coconut, honeyed pear, candied grapefruit, and apricot flower. The wine proves still rather primary even if intensely creamy and sweet on the palate and leaves a refined smooth feel with a nice sense of freshness in the background in the finish and the aftertaste. This dessert wine now only needs some cellaring to reveal its nuances." (10/2020)
