Barrel Sample. Under the same ownership as Château la Dominique in Saint-Emilion, this estate has produced here a smooth wine, with great tannins and a dense structure. It has weight along with acidity and a crisp aftertaste. (RV)

A soft and easy red with dark-berry and herb character. Medium body and round tannins.

The 2016 Clément-Pichon offers simple blackcurrant and raspberry aromas on the nose, quite pure and airy, well defined if not overly complex. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit laced with graphite and tobacco, well knit with an elegant finish. (NM)

Notes

93 points, Chris Kissack on winedoctor.com: "From a historic estate, with quite sandy soils, the blend here is 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The élevage was 70% in barrel, half new and half second-fill, while the remaining 30% was aged in stainless steel. Here the wine rested for 14 months, and it was bottled in June 2018. The fruit on the nose feels dark, quite grained, with notes of blackcurrant and black cherry skins, touched with a lightly roasted and grilled note and a little cherry blossom perfume. The palate is very fine, certainly sweetly ripe, full, but with the classic structure of 2016, showing a fine core of polished and tightly knit tannins, over which sits the rather juicy fruit substance. A charming, savoury and fresh style, with a good grip in the finish. There is nice potential here." (12/2018)
