Reviewed December 2019While still young, this Champagne has all the makings of greatness. Produced from grand cru vineyards, it already balances ripe white fruits with a firm structure that will age well. It’s relatively dry and has plenty of acidity, which will also aid in the longevity. *Top Cellar Selections 2019* (RV)

Tasted from magnum. As fine an argument for buying magnums of vintage Champagne as one could make, Laurent Perrier's brilliant 2008 is still going strong 17 years from the harvest. It offers serene, crisp white currant, pear and candied lemon fruit over a wonderfully seductive, reductive and sleek bedding of gunflint, toasted hazelnut, sourdough, croissant and the richness of caramel and dried stone fruits. The mousse has settled into satin smoothness, even if the wine itself is still showing plenty of 2008's driving acidity. (TH)

This is a solid and very dense Champagne with a phenolic and rich texture. Layers of cooked apples and light lemon rind. Brioche and light pie-crust in the aftertaste. Fresh and relatively dry aftertaste.

The polished LP style really works in high-acid years such as this (1996 was a previous favourite). The nose is rather perfumed and full of lifted fruit, and the mid-palate rather plush. Pithy grapefruit aromas create poise, with notes of vanilla and a superb dusting of autolytic toastiness through mid-palate to finish. Surprisingly full and complex, and quite enjoyable now, but further complexity and development are to be expected. A tiny bit of sweetness of unintegrated dosage on the finish. I’d cellar for a further 2-3 years.

The greatest vintage Champagne that I have ever had from Laurent-Perrier! I first tasted this in Tours-sur-Marne with chef de cave Michel Fauconnet and filled my notebook up with exclamation points. He said that the job of a vintage wine is to express the year, and he has expressed the 2008—the best vintage in at least a generation—perfectly. This Champagne is all about length, chalky minerality, and scintillating refreshment. The finish is nearly infinite on this wine that shows much more like a blanc de blanc in spite of the half Pinot Noir in the blend. Don't miss out on the best vintage ever from one of the great grande marque houses!

This vintage is deliciously complex. A blend of equal parts Chardonnay, and Pinot noir plus at this price point you cannot go wrong. The orchard fruit of apple and green pear in addition to a subtle almond mousse and brioche. This has just the right amount of tangy, bright finish and lush florals. this is sure to please the most discerning palate.
