Reviewed December 2018I had the pleasure to taste a few examples of Meix Chavaux on this trip and my favorite was to be found in the Lafouge cellars. The stunning nose offers up a complex blend of lime zest, passion fruit, pear, limestone minerality, a touch of iodine, almond, vanillin oak and a floral topnote redolent of lime blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with a superb core of fruit, fine transparency and a long, succulent and vibrant finish. This is made from vines that are now ninety years-old and this really shows in this stunning 2017.

Lafouge's 2017 Meursault Les Meix Chavaux is showing brilliantly, offering up scents of ripe citrus oil, Anjou pear and white flowers that are pure and expressive despite its very recent bottling. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and racy, with a satiny-textured attack, a deep core and a bright, precise finish. It's a lovely old-vine Meix Chavaux that constitutes one of the finer values in the world of contemporary Meursault. (WK) 92+
