Reviewed July 2019
This is a great entry-level wine from Russell Joyce, starting with aromas of candied Bing cherry, earthy forest floor and umami-laced shiitake mushrooms. The palate is bright and snappy with raspberry, marjoram, bay leaf and pine needle flavors, framed by taut tannins and brilliant acidity. (MK)

Notes

Winemaker's Notes: "The maritime influences of the Monterey Submarine Canyon, measuring a full one mile in depth from top to bottom, is the inspiration for this Pinot Noir. The grapes were mostly de-stemmed with 30% remaining as whole clusters. The grapes where then fermented using native yeasts at cool temperatures until dry in small open top temperature controlled tanks. The wine was aged on its lees for 8 months in neutral French oak barrels where a naturally occurring malolactic fermentation occurred. The wine was racked to tank and allowed to settle for a month prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Grapes were sourced from three vineyards in Arroyo Seco / Monterey / Gabilan Mt. Range."
