Wine Advocate

Reviewed December 1993
The outstanding 1991 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes exhibits a huge bouquet of raspberries and flowers. Splendidly rich and medium to full-bodied, with exceptional elegance and richness, this brilliant wine should drink well for at least a decade. (RP)

Notes

This wine is the same as that sold under the Ponsot label, except for the paper sticker on the bottle. It even has his proprietary glass and comes from the same old vines, as well as being vinified in the same cellar. Oh, and the price — a fraction of that under Ponsot's own label. Robert Parker explains: "On my recent visit to Burgundy I learned something I had not known about this estate. As many readers who follow the wines of Domaine de Chézeaux know, the Griottes-Chambertin, Chambertin, and Chambolle-Musigny-Les Charmes, as well as part of the Clos St-Denis are made by Ponsot. In principle it is the identical wine produced by Ponsot (who leases the vineyards from the Domaine de Chézeaux and in return makes the wines)... Who said Burgundy was complicated!" (02/1993)
