Reviewed January 2017Bright magenta. Vibrant, spice-tinged red berry and floral qualities on the highly perfumed nose; a mineral flourish adds urgency. Pure, gently sweet and focused on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, cherry and rose pastille flavors that flesh out slowly with aeration. Powerful yet lithe, delivering strong closing thrust, impressive persistence and repeating mineral and floral notes. This is a distinctly graceful wine for the vintage and it has the balance to age.

The 2015 Regnie Haute Ronze spent 6 months in concrete vats. It has a clean and pure blueberry and red cherry-scented bouquet, slightly floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannin, smooth and quite sensual in the mouth, balanced with a caressing raspberry and strawberry finish, a smear of vanilla on the aftertaste. This is a great Regnie from Jean-Michel Dupré. (NM)

These are definitely old vines, at nearly 100 years of age. The wine from this impeccable producer is juicy with great fruitiness and rich red-cherry flavors. It has fine acidity and light tannins. As befits a wine from Regnié, it is likely to age easily and with fine fruit. Drink from 2017.
Notes
Jean-Michel Dupre starting with next to nothing: only a farm and a 2 hectare vineyard left by his father. When the question of succession arose Jean-Michel could not pass on the opportunity. He converted an old farm building into a winery and went in search of well-located plots in Beaujolais, Beaujolais Villages, Morgon, and Régnié. What sets him apart from many other winemakers in the region is the age of his vineyard, which has vines on it that are around 100 years old.
