This fresh, medium-bodied red offers ripe cherry, plum, and steeped berry flavors, structured with crisp acidity. Hints of sweet spice and herb add appeal through the lip-smacking, minerally finish. Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault.

We were phenomenally excited to work with Reserve d'O last year and the wines sold out very quickly. We couldn't even get the "Bilbo" last year because the winery had sold out before we were able to put our order together. Well two things, I ordered much earlier this year and I ordered much more. The Bilbo, is the every day wine meant to be served with the lightest of chills. Fresh and floral, juicy raspberry fruit, exotic spices, this is elegant and stylish wine with vibrant acidity. Pair it with EVERYTHING! Chicken, pork, beef, veggies, whatever, this is versatile stuff.

Oh the Bilbo, Billy bo bo baggins. I'm in love with this wine. It has everything I want in a $15 red. Tons of character, bright fresh red fruits, ultra clean but pointed with light spices and earth. The palate has wonderful structure, but remains perfectly drinkable, juicy acids that makes you keep coming back. Basically, this wine, like all the Reserve D'O wines shows well beyond the price point. It's something to consider bulking up on and planning to drink a bottle a week for the next year or so. But of course with these small producer, handmade wines there's not a ton to go around, so taste quick and decide soon. Next vintage is a long way off.

Notes

Marie and Frederic Chauffray began their career in wine when they took over Fred parent's wine shop in a suburb outside of Paris. They ran the business successfully for many years but Marie always wanted to pursue winemaking. After 8 years of searching they found the perfect terroir in a small vineyard in the hills above the city of Montpellier. Since 2005, they have made wine their way, fully with respect for nature following organic and biodynamic principles. The Bilbo represents their every day wine. It is composed of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Cinsault. The wine takes its name not from the Hobbit but actually from the village of Bilbao in the Basque country of northern Spain. Marie and Fred are huge fans Basque culture and this wine is meant to go with those kinds foods. Put a faint chill on it and serve with lighter fare. Some meatballs, bacalao or perhaps an omelette with a little chorizo. (Keith Mabry, K&L Wine Merchants-French Regional Buyer)
