Reviewed September 2016This experimental 'very small batch' bottling is made with 'very old' Kentucky Bourbon finished for nine months in barrels that previously held Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley winery Groth. The end result is a caramel and dried-fruit nose and a relatively dry, tannic whiskey with a port-like dark-fruit undercurrent. Debuted May 2015. (KN)

Part of Jefferson's cask-finished Reserve series, this small-batch Kentucky bourbon is finished in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels from Groth Vineyards & Winery in Napa Valley. The release reflects Trey Zoeller's long-running interest in secondary maturation and winery collaborations, using wine-seasoned oak as a finishing vessel rather than as a flavoring additive.
