Wine & Spirits
Reviewed December 2014This was riveting on first taste, although that had nothing to do with the flavor, which was intensely reserved. It was simply the sense of anticipation it gave, the impression of a masterful stone structure waiting to be filled. The next day, the wine delivered with scents of wildflowers, citrus and herbs springing up out of that stony base, the acidity racing through the wine like a cool spring breeze. It’s textbook Graacher Himmelreich, forbiddingly austere on one hand, delicately elegant on the other.

John Gilman
The wine is still quite young, but pure and promising, offering up a fine nose of apple, petrol, a touch of fresh pineapple, slate and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is medium-full, crisp and nascently complex, with ripe acids, lovely focus and grip and a long, potentially superb finish.

Wine Advocate
With spring-like aromas of white fruits and flinty slate flavors, it opens bright and clear like a prelude from Johann Sebastian Bach on the nose. Very delicate, light, piquant and absolutely stimulating on the palate, this filigreed yet firmly structured and persistently salty wine is absolutely delicious! (SR)

Wine Enthusiast
Hints of smoke and earth lend a mineral tone to this elegant, blossom-scented Riesling. It's off-dry in style, filling the mouth with juicy, concentrated quince and yellow cherry flavors, but maintains a stately composure with brisk grapefruit acidity and a lean, lingering vein of struck slate and stone. Notes
92 points, Mosel Fine Wines: "This offers a gorgeous nose of lemon, peach, white orchard fruits and some herbs. The wine is deliciously well balanced on the palate and delivers a stunningly long and well-balanced finish." (10/2013) Graacher Himmelreich is a steep, slate-soiled vineyard in the Middle Mosel, immediately downstream from Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Joh. Jos. Prüm is one of the appellation’s benchmark family estates, and its Kabinett bottlings are traditionally made for extended development in bottle.
