Vinous

Reviewed May 2006
Saturated bright ruby color. Explosive, high-toned aromas of blackberry and licorice. Powerful, even a bit tough, with an initial blueberry flavor that was joined by cherry syrup as the wine opened in the glass. A youthfully medicinal wine that finishes with huge tannins and pronounced acidity. Like the Syrah, this will need time in bottle. This Petite Sirah, from fruit purchased from Switchback Ridge, will be the last vintage of this wine under the Pride label. (ST) 90+

Grown at the top of Spring Mountain, this Petite Sirah is powerfully concentrated. It coats the glass and drips slowly down the side, offering a visual interpretation of superripe fruit and black tannins. Three days after the bottle was opened, the wine is still as hard as rock. Check on this after ten years.
