Complex and balanced, this go-to bourbon features vanilla aromatics with a touch of fresh apple. On the palate, it's light at first, showing vanilla and honey, and winds into deeper, rounded notes of cocoa and hazelnut. Splash in ginger ale for a highball and sip all night long. *Best Buy* (KN)

Interesting that the label says 'Artfully Aged,' yet there’s no actual age statement. Lively nose, good rye snap and spice, a bit of mint and oaky edge. Not hot, well-behaved on the tongue, and happily gives back everything taken on the nose. Sweet, spicy, and easy to like, this is whiskey without flaw, well-done and tasty. (LB, Fall 2014)

Basil Hayden's Bourbon dates back to 1796, when Master Distiller Basil Hayden, Sr. created a new bourbon recipe using a traditional corn base, but added small grains into his mash. The result revealed the spicy flavors of rye, which complemented the sweetness of corn. Today Basil Hayden is one of Jim Beam's prized offerings in their Small Batch Collection and is an ode to the spicy nature of rye and the sweetness of corn married together with high-quality American oak. The 80 proof bottling is the definition of smooth in the Bourbon world.
