I paid special attention to this one, a significant birth year in my family! As with so many of the Reed bottlings, this wine was super elegant, layered, and showed some exotic spice notes. Leafy tones, dried herbs, leather, dusty earth.

Notes

Calera's Reed Vineyard consists of just a little under four and a half acres that were planted to Pinot Noir in 1975. Formerly forested, these north and northeast facing upper and lower blocks features the deepest and darkest soils with more clay, and thus fruit is slower to ripen. It was named after William (Bill) G. Reed, Sr. one of Calera's original founding partners and close friend to Josh Jenson. Reed Vineyard Pinots are typically exotically perfumed, light in body, with a soft, supple mouthfeel. The cool microclimate makes for wines with naturally fresh acidity and the structure to develop nicely with age.
