Springbank 10 Year Old Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

SKU #992379 92 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Smells of dried figs, sultanas, lime marmalade, sea breeze, green olive, lemon grass, malted milk and unsweetened coconut. The taste profile asserts itself in the forms of light caramel, paraffin and almond paste; at midpalate the spirit becomes more evident as the off-dry, malty, moderately salty flavor warms the tongue and throat. Concludes gracefully and elegantly, with a mild rush of heat and smoke. Inner quote mark (6/2006)

Whisky Advocate

Outer quote mark Thick barley and viscous, with ever-present brine and berried fruit throughout. Underlying notes of waxy fruit (no doubt from some sherry cask aging), clementine, pineapple, and black licorice emerge, followed by the brine kicking in again towards the finish. The most rambunctious of the three. (JH, Fall 2007) Inner quote mark

K&L Notes

The Springbank 10 year old is the perfect whisky to introduce you to this distiller's range. Matured in sherry and bourbon casks, this is a richly balanced expression. Pear scents are accented by notes of cereal, vanilla and smoky peat. The palate is malty, with baking spice and vanilla flavors, ending with a hint of salinity.

The younger aged statement of my absolute favorite whisky, the 10 year shows a mind-boggling amount of flavor that'll make your head spin in delight. Super complex, everything in harmony in balance, and you can truly taste everything down to the malty goodness. This age statement feels a bit briny-er than the 15, with a bit more of an orange zest and tropical hue to it. Super smooth, medium-rich texture, like a mouthful of sunshine. No wonder people cant decided between the 10 and the 15...

If you want the real Scottish experience, there is no better bottle to cut your teeth on. The Springbank 10 year pulls no punches. Bottled in small batches, you're quickly transported to the fields of Kintyre, and the damp, inviting warehouse and the wonderful malt floors that make this one of the most special spirits in Scotland. This is real whisky made the real way, and once you taste it, you'll understand why it's different from every other 10 year out there.

Does it get any better than Springbank 10? I don't know. It's still my favorite whisky all these years later. There's nothing out there that combines the peat, richness, and oily nature of the Springbank spirits. There's also no other distillery that still does every step of the process from scratch.

If I'm in the mood for a bit of peat, this is one of my favorites. Scottland's oldest independent, continually-operated distillery, Springbank's 10 year is a great balance of judicious peaty smoke, malty, nutty flavors, a hint of sweetness, and an amazing saline tang on the finish, which lingers a while and then seems to dissolve effortlessly. Powerful and elegant, Springbank is a true original, and every bit as elegant as people say it is.
