2021 Jonata "Todos" Ballard Canyon Red Blend

The 2021 Jonata Todos Vineyard Red Blend delivers a smooth and inviting drinking experience, brimming with enticing aromas and flavours of pomegranate, cherry, red liquorice, vanilla, grilled herbs, and lilacs. Medium to full-bodied, it features velvety tannins layered with notes of cool, wet slate and subtle hints of truffle salt, all leading to a tart, dry finish. This blend comprises 66% Syrah, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petite Sirah, and 2% Merlot, aged for 20 months in 30% new French oak. I have always loved the Todos bottling from Jonata. As a "whole" assemblage of what they grown on the estate, this wine gives a perfect snapshot of time and place without the big price tag many of the other wines carry. In many vintages, such as this, I think the wine is just as impressive as some of its more expensive stable mates. As per usual, the 2021 Todos is a Syrah driven blend (66%), with a good amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (18%), and Petite Sirah (12%) in the mix that bolsters the mid-palate richness. Jonata estate sits in the hills above Ballard Canyon. The vines grow in fine sandy soils over limestone bedrock. The wines from here are potent with soaring aromatics, deeply concentrated fruit and powerful structure. Winemaker Matt Dees (considered by many as one of the most talented winemakers in the state) has elevated Jonata to be one of the crown jewels of Santa Barbara County.
