Here's another one from this new lot out of November 2023. This gorgeous barrel has a lot going on. A lovely hue of russett (1.3). The nose is a perfect balance between sweet and savory. Very pretty on first nosing, but with less spice than others. Big sweet nutty nose balanced with dark herbal character, dense citrus oil, caramel candies, hints of sweet peach tea, apricot jam and subtle rose character. On the palate fabulous balance between the sweet stone fruit and rich oolong note. Big spice kicks up in the back for a long dark spicy finish. This is easily the longest finish of the 8 barrels we tasted and if you don't want too much funk, but aren't afraid of some savory dark flavors then this is the barrel for you.

The Russell's Reserve Single barrels have long been some of the finest K&L has to offer, but only recently has the broader public become aware of the extreme quality and complexity that they can offer. We've been travelling to the famous distillery in Tyrone, KY for over a decade and have been lucky enough to select barrels by hand with three generations of Russell's. This batch of barrels is second to none and presents a cross section of distillation from the fall of 2014 aged in either the Q or K warehouses. What is shocking is the overall quality and the diversity across the range of otherwise similar barrels. Some are sweeter, earthier or spicier, but ALL of these barrels are exceptional.
