2020 Trimbach "Sélection de Vieilles Vignes" Riesling Alsace

92 pts, Ian d'Agata for Terroir Sense: "Pale, green-tinged yellow. Vibrant aromas of spearmint oil, lime, fresh herbs and spices. Bright and stony, but with a mellow character thanks to ripe acidity and creamy flavours of celery seed, nectarine and orange peel. Subtle Riesling wine with very good length that hints at wild fennel. Very similar to previous bottlings of this wine but with relatively greater sweetness (perhaps unavoidable in the 2022 vintage, though Trimbach’s wines are always on the classically dry side). Only 15,000 bottles a year made from very old vines (60-70 years old) from the areas and crus of Mulforst, the Rosacker and other vineyard areas. This beauty will only go on sale at the end of next year (the 2019 and 2020 are currently on sale, and there’s the 2021 on the way soon too). This stopped being called “Sélection de” as of the 2020 vintage." (11/2023)
