Colour - Primrose Yellow. Aromas - The Islay Maritime overture in harmony with the warm peat smoke drift leaves you in no doubt where this spirit was born and raised! The sweetness from the toasted barley works well with the mellowness of oak with just a hint of spice from the bourbon residue. A harmonious bouquet seeded with the sea air & the character of the men who made it in the traditional way. Palate - Soft fruits created by the yeast during distillation over a decade ago emerge and together with malt extract and the sweetness of the toasted oak staves create a flavour that is unique to single cask bottling. No blending, no colouring, just the skills of the honest craftsmen, an Islay upbringing on the Atlantic seaboard and its that simple! Enjoy your time with the character, passion & skill of Duncan McGillivray who made this spirit - A true Legend!!

Notes

Lochindaal. This historic name belonged to a distillery that originally opened as the Port Charlotte Distillery in 1829, just a stones throw south of Bruichladdich. For most of its 100 years the Port Charlotte distillery operated as Lochindaal and made heavily peated spirit. Unfortunately in 1929 it was purchased by DCL (what is now Diageo) and was immediately closed. The name, thought to be available for use, was briefly tied to a new heavily peated spirit produced by Jim McEwan and Duncan McGillivary at Bruichladdich until a cease and desist from the owners of the trademark ended that notion. In an agreement reached over the dispute the few casks that had been distilled were allowed to keep their name, but production had to stop. This is one of those rare casks. More heavily peated than Port Charlotte, but less so than Octomore, this is a smoky dram. Bottled for the 2023 Islay Festival, This unique barrel belonged to Duncan McGillivary, Jim McEwan’s right hand man in the revival of Bruichladdich. This bottle honors Duncan's mastery, encapsulating his passion for whisky craftsmanship. This barrel was the first cask filled during the final distillation of Lochindaal, marking a seminal moment in Bruichladdich's history. Whether by design or destiny, this cask represents not just Duncan's talents, but also the spirit of a collective effort and the distinctiveness of Lochindaal. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 60.8%, un-chill filtered, and without added coloring.
