Reviewed May 2023From vines almost 50 years old in the parcels Falkenberg and Lay and picked at 105° Oechsle in the same go, like the Grosses Gewächs, at the end of October, the 2022 Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese offers a delicate and juicy-savory nose of ripe stone fruits, pink grapefruits, lemons and finely broken slate. Lush and delicate on the palate, with crystalline and saline acidity, this is a mouth-watering and juicy, wonderfully intense and aromatic Auslese from the JSU. It is gorgeous, but you should age it in you cellar for at least a decade. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023. (SR)

Normally, I'm not a big fan of sweeter Riesling. Gary Westby has trained my palate for bracing acidity and clean, clean, clean, minerals. Kabinett and Spatlese is usually tops out my sweetness tolerance. Until now. This big and rich It is rich with apricots, mango, pineapple and orange marmalade. However, underneath it all, there are fresh lemon flavors and minerals. I did not expect that! An excellent price, too!
Notes
93pts Mosel Fine Wines: "The 2022er Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese was made from partially botrytized grapes (20-30%) harvested at 92° Oechsle and was fermented down to fully sweet levels of residual sugar (90 g/l). It offers a beautifully complex and creamy nose made of ripe pear, apricot, dark spices, almond cream, a hint of dried fruits, and smoky elements. The wine is gorgeously smooth and multi-layered on the palate where herbal notes add depth to the experience. The finish is slightly smooth but a great sense of zest already comes through in the aftertaste to lift up the flavors. 2027-2042 ." (06/2023)
