Reviewed May 2023A fresh and supple viognier with notes of ripe lemons, white flowers and some sage. It’s light- to- medium-bodied with fresh acidity. Succulent finish. From organically grown grapes.

The 2022 Cotes-du-Rhône richer more expansive version of Viognier. Coming from the southern Rhone as opposed to cooler climate versions from Condrieu, this Viognier has a more tropical edge. Roasted pear, mango, lychee and jasmine explode from the glass. Though exotic, it is never over-the-top. The wines is aged in 10% wood giving some spice presence to the wine as well. What a lovely white to transition to the upcoming cooler months.
Notes
The estate at Château Gigognan has a history stretching back to Roman times and eventually became the property of the bishops of Avignon. More recently, the estate was acquired by Anne and Jacques Callet, who over the last few decades completely rebuilt the winery, restoring the château and replanting where necessary. Slowly they acquired additional parcels, and now the domaine includes 30 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, In 2012, consulting winemaker Philippe Cambie helped out, and in 2017 the property was bought by Jean-Francois Henin, with famed winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt was brought in to consult.
