Cordoin Didierlaurent "Les Grands Champs" Champagne

This incredible, pure Meunier champagne was one of the top discoveries of my May 2023 trip to the region. Unfortunately, we were only able to get five cases of this for the entire USA, understandable since it is sourced from one very shy bearing, less than one acre, over 80 year old parcel of Meunier in the village of Leuvrigny. Lovingly fermented in old, small oak barrels, this wine reminded me of the great old wines of Réné Collard yet has the polish of a producer like Krug. The wine has a white gold color, and a nose of white truffles and sourdough bread. In the mouth, it has the classic refind pear fruit of the best of Meunier, and a super long, mineral driven finish with dry zing that will make you wish that there was more available. -Gary Westby, K&L
