SKU #1677781 92 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Brilliant peach in color with flexes of copper, this wine explodes with fruit in the glass. Find intense notes of ripe melon, tangerine, lemon skin, peaches and pears. The palate has a beautiful textural presentation of soft fruit with grapefruit oil on the midpalate and a saline mineral finish. (ACC) Inner quote mark (8/2023)

Outer quote mark Pale and slightly coppery in hue, Fondreche's 2022 Ventoux Rose includes a hefty dose of Cinsault, with the balance a mix of Grenache and Syrah. Scents of crushed stone, boxwood and melon rind give it more than just fruity appeal, while it's medium-bodied in the mouth, with a silky texture and a lingering finish that adds notes of peach and guava. Complex and textural, it's a solid wine pretty much every year. (JC) Inner quote mark (5/2023)

K&L Notes

Located in the foothills of Mont Ventoux lies the one of the top producers in the Ventoux region of the Rhone - Domaine de Fondreche. Vigneron Sebastien Vincenti took over the winemaking from his mother in 2005. With an eye toward biodiversity and using organic and biodynamic practices for many years, Fondreche was recently certified organic in 2022. The winery sits on a plateau comprised of alluvial soils (predominantly clay and gravel) with a sliver of Silex (AKA flint). The fruit for the rosé comes from vines on the sandier siltier soils just below the plateau. This cooler soil helps yield fresher brighter rosés. The 2021 rosé is comprised of 50% Cinsault, 30% Syrah and 20% Grenache from vines averaging 35 years-old. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tank it is then aged for 6 months in concrete tank on the lees before release.

Conspicuous for its tendency to vanish from our shelves during the dog days of summer, the Fondrèche Ventoux Rosé, made from a blend of 50% Cinsault, 30% Syrah, and 20% Grenache, is a pristine, pale evocation of fleshy orchard fruits, macerated and aged on the lees for a bit more weight and depth of flavor, without losing any of its impeccable spark and charm. Want some advice? Buy a case, it’s that delicious.

Fondreche is definitely one of my favorite additions to our Rhone portfolio. One of the great producers in the Ventoux, we have been fortunate to work directly with them for a few years now. Now fully certified organic, they have made incredible strides with Grenache and Syrah, using precise, minimal intervention winemaking. Oh and some of the best terroir in Ventoux as well, plus some great old vine Syrah, a rarity in the region where Grenache has dominated. But, I always come back to this rose. Based on Cinsault, Syrah and Grenache, it has so much purity. Loaded with orchard fruits like peach and nectarine, notes of watermelon rind and white currants. It has that fresh acidity that keeps it focused and refreshes your palate. Few wines speak summer in a glass quite like the Fondreche. Do not hesitate to load up on this as this beauty drinks really well now and should keep drinking for the next year or even longer...

This is an excellent French rose that offers a unique take on the category. It offers a bit more rich red fruit, nectarine and tangerine than most Provence roses, a slightly more broadened texture on the palate, then hones it in with a bright, clean mineral finish. This is the kind of delicious rose that empties quickly on a warm day, so stock up.
