The wines of Sophie Guiradon rank as some of my favorites from the sun kissed slopes in the south of France. Her 2021 Lolo continues to be one of my favorite value driven wines. It is a superb selection for everyday indulgence; it tempts with lush, inviting fruit, refined tannins, and a finish that irresistibly calls for a another glass. Flavors of blackberry, a whisper of white pepper and a hint of creme de violette create a nearly gulpable profile but it is the finesse on the palate that brings it all home. I very happy to add this back to my weeknight drinking rotation!
Notes
"My name is Sophie Guiraudon and I am a winemaker since ZERO generation!" Sophie Guiraudon worked in other people's wineries in southern France for years, and in 2000, she started her own biodynamic, organic winery. She wanted to grow grapes that her son could eat right off of the vines. The "Lolo de l'Anhel" is a blend of 81% Carignan, 10% Syrah, 7% Grenache, and 2% Mourvèdre. The grapes are handpicked, gently vacuum pressed, and finished with 100% tank aging.
