The Petroni is the little wine that could. When we first came across this producer, it was the rose that was the star. But every for the last half decade, the Rouge has impressed more and more. Even the critics have agreed consistently making this wine one of the top reviewed values coming from Corsica. Showing its traditional roots with a hefty dose of Nielluciu (a clone of Sangiovese), the Grenache and Syrah add succulent fruit. Brambly blackberry, red licorice, spice and tobacco are some of the vibrant flavors that emerge in the glass. A supple finish makes for one of our best French values, regardless of where it came from!

The Petroni Corse Rouge has been consistently easy drinking for the past 4-5 vintages I have had the pleasure of tasting. The wines especially the rouge has a very characteristic nose of marine breeze, mineral tar and Nori sheets. The blueberry shows especially when it is slightly chilled. At 12.5% ALC and $14.99 priced this is a perfect wine for most mid-week dinner combinations.
Notes
Domaine Petroni is an estate on the eastern side of Corsica near Lake Diane. Lake Diane is a famous lagoon, where the local aquaculture produces gorgeous oysters and mussels. Now run by the Ramazotti brothers, this idyllic location overlooks the Mediterranean with its vineyards composed of sandy and clay soils. The rouge is a blend of roughly 50% Niellucciu, 35% Syrah, and 15% Grenache. Grapes are fermented in concrete tanks and aged 12 months in stainless steel to preserve the fresh fruit-driven aspects of the wine.
