2013 Glen Scotia 8 Year Old K&L Exclusive Cask #20/329-3 Demerara Rum Cask Finished Cask Strength Non Chill Filtered Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

SKU #1642388

Our first official single barrel from the wonderful and unique Campeltown distiller Glen Scotia. For many years this small distillery across town from the famous Springbank Distillery remained in obscurity. Their new owners have revitalized the property and begun releasing exciting and unusual cask strength editions. This is the very first single cask we've been offered and while it may seem young, it's not at all lacking in flavor. Distilled in 2013 and aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred to fresh dumped Demerara rum cask for over a year, it was bottled in early 2022 at a natural cask strength of 58.4% alc by vol. This gorgeous whisky offers a unique take on the often earthy, rugged Glen Scotia malt. Wild aromas of caramelized sugar, salt candies, zesty lime cordial, and dried fruits are balanced by a vibrant ginger component. Sweet tropical aromas of pineapple and coconut persist through the palate. All in all, this is one of the finest Scotias we've ever come across. We're grateful to be one of the only stores getting single casks from this special distillery and honored to have been able to pick such an intriguing and unique barrel. Only 242 bottles produced exclusively for K&L Wine Merchants.

What a fabulous marriage - the pristine golden malt of Glen Scotia with the sticky molasses and dried fruit of Demerara rum. Candied citrus, pear, and sultana awash with treacle and turbinado sugar make the first impression, while a subtle heat lingers. The spice lands somewhere between fresh ginger and white pepper. Mocha and piloncillo come in to remind you of the rum cask finish, along with just a hint of pot still funk. But the malt here is definitely the star of the show. While typing this, I had to pour more to revisit its glory. At once richly flavored and elegant, this is a treat to the senses. It feels bright and light on its feet to counteract the dense and sticky flavors at play. Glen Scotia fans will find a lot to love here, but I think there's something for everyone here. You'll fall in love with its sweet heat and gorgeous concentration, but you'll stay because it continues to challenge you while remaining lively and inviting.
