Reviewed January 2021A markedly cooler nose is quite fresh with airy aromas of dark raspberry, earth and a whiff of spice and in particular anise. The vibrant and chiseled middle weight flavors terminate in a linear, youthfully austere and compact finale. This always needs time to open and will require at least a few years of patience first.

A shining star in a great lineup of Bart wines for me, Cinnamon and I bought a case of this one for our own cellar, to go along with the other vintages we have collected over the years. This is a spicy Pinot with great color and savory dark fruit. The mid palate is "soyeuse comme tout" true velvet in the mouth and a great contrast to the spice on the nose. The back end is as fresh as the texture is velvety… A little bit of that high end Burgundy magic! Very long finishing and layered, but far to easy to drink, our case might have to go into our wine locker where I can’t get to it if I want to age this one
Notes
Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "One part of the Bart holding comes from a cool, less easy to ripen site in the back of the combe, and in the past this would be declassified. However, since 2018 they look on it as a bonus! Pierre Bart thinks that Es Chezots is not a cuvée which likes whole bunch as the wine can lose precision. Fresh mid purple, a slightly less pure nose coming after La Montagne. Overall the wine has softer sweet fruit, lower acidity, medium length."
