With a light, bright and fruity character, this wine has attractive citrus acidity that is filled out with green-apple flavors. (RV)

Grown on primarily caillotte soils (limestone rocks) and terre blanche (Kimmeridgian marl), Aurore's wines hum with personality. Taking control of the family vineyards in 2011, she has grown as a winemaker each year and almost exponentially since we began our direct relationship with her 2016 vintage. The 2019 is crackling with gorgeous fruit. Lime zest, Meyer lemon and verbena dominate the nose with the whisper of chalk in the background. This is her best wine we've seen so far and if you haven't tried this, now is the time to get on board.

Extremely floral on the nose! Pretty scents of honeysuckle and lemon meringue. On the palate, lemon cream, gooseberry and a little hint of kiwi. For me, relatively rich but, still has balancing acidity and zest. A real pleasure to drink!

Notes

The wines of Aurore Dezat are a regular feature in our wine club offerings, and her vibrant Sancerre is an easy favorite among K&L staff as well. Aurore makes wine on her family estate in Sury-en-Vaux, which was established by her grandfather. Before Aurore took over the estate, most of the fruit was sold off through négociants. She has slowly phased out the négociant contracts. The estate is home to more than just vines, with grain crops and farm animals also finding a home there, but for Aurore, the focus is on the wine. She farms organically and emphasizes the importance of the three soil types present on the estate. With her grapes growing on limestone, flint (or silex), and clay, Aurore can produce wines that have a real depth of character. The 2019 is another delightful vintage; the aromas jump out of the glass, with wet stone, grapefruit, gooseberry, and Meyer lemon. On the palate, the fruit is clean and soft with bright acidity and layers of mineral depth. It’s a beautiful wine any time of year, but we particularly enjoy it with the lovely autumn weather we see here in the Bay Area.
