Le Gallais Cuvée du Manoir Brut Champagne

SKU #1425027

This small, all estate-grown Champagne is sourced from only one vineyard, the Clos Boursault, an ancient walled vineyard just west of Epernay on the Marne. It is composed of 45% Pinot Noir, 45% Meunier, and 10% Chardonnay, and given four years of ageing on the lees. It benefits from an incredible 50% reserves. This is very brut at just 6g/L of dosage but is not at all austere. I love this wine for its easy style, great toasted baguette aromas and nut bread and savory Pinot flavors. The finish is long, and the wine is amazing in its completeness. This is the place to start with the wines of Le Gallais, and a fantastic aperitif. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

What a special offering! Entirely inside a clos with just 4 hectares of vines, Le Gallais is a house with both history and a modern sense of style. While I generally (think that I) prefer Blanc de blancs Champagnes, Le Gallais’ Cuvée du Manoir was my favorite release in their lineup, a surprise considering the 45% Meunier! This is elegant, gorgeous fruit, with the dark berry character of Meunier sans earthy funkiness that can sometimes overwhelm. The rest of the blend is balanced perfectly by 45% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. This spends a minimum of 4 years on the lees, and at just 6 g/L, could swing as either brut or extra brut. Creamy, toasty, with a delicate bead and chalky backbone, this checks all the boxes for an incredible Champagne, and at this price, does not disappoint. Le Gallais is a must-try for aficionados who have worked their way through our Direct Imports, and a no brainer for your next party.

A new direct import we recently added to our line-up and I'm so excited for our customers to try them out! The profile is bright, vivacious, with great texture, fine beads, toasty aromas, and finishes elegantly. An easy Champagne to sip before or after dinner.

This brand new release (for us) is one of the most interesting Champagnes that we are currently stocking. It was a favorite with the SF staff when I opened it for them. There are nice, chalky undertones with dark cherry fruit and toasted nuts. The texture tends toward soft, smooth and silky. Frighteningly easy to drink!

I drank this last night at home, and loved it every bit as much as I did when I was inside the clos Boursault where it was grown. This Champagne is so easy to drink, but has so much depth and complexity underneath its easygoing exterior, that it's hard to believe it sells for such a low price. The baguette toast, creamy texture, and fine bead show off the wine's four years of ageing on the lees, while its smooth character and multi-faceted intrigue show off the underground solera where the Gallais store their reserve solera. This is a great aperitif for a party, but even a better bottle for two. The second glass is better than the first!
Top Value!

This is the last time I mention that Pinot Meunier is not my favorite grape in Champagne. This is delicious, 45% Meunier. Toasty, fresh and mineral, the whole package. Can't wait to try it again.
