2015 Labégorce, Margaux

SKU #1388690 95 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark There is a tough, tannic core to this otherwise ripe and fruity wine. All to the good, as this will allow the bold, ripe wine to age well. Black-currant fruits are already showing their hand and will intensify, bringing in richness and a dense texture. *Editors' Choice* (RV) Inner quote mark (2/2018)

Outer quote mark A blockbuster from Margaux is the 2015 Château Labégorce and I was blown away by this beauty. To reiterate, the southern Médoc, and Margaux in particular, is the sweet spot in 2015. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, with close to half the blend brought up in new barrels, its deep purple color flows to a beautiful bouquet of black cherries, blueberries, spice, and violets. With medium to full-bodied richness, a plump, layered, pure texture, ripe tannin, and impressive length, it’s a standout for sure. Inner quote mark (11/2017)

Outer quote mark Dried-mushroom and dark-fruit character. Some flowers, too. Full body, round and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Big and chewy. Yet finishes beautifully. Fantastic. Inner quote mark (2/2018)

Outer quote mark Excellent quality, with glass-staining inky purple colour and a punch of blue and red fruits on the opening moments. Exactly what you want from this level of Margaux, has so much pesonality, is richly textured, caputres the exuberance of 2015 while retaining the elegance of the appellation. Outer quote mark 2015 Labegorce has a gorgeous bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed violets and iodine, the new oak beautifully integrated, a Margaux will real panache. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, a keen line of acidity, fresh and vibrant with such a pretty floral finish that you would be tempted to open a bottle soon. Perhaps you could because the tannin ensures this is approachable, yet it undoubtedly has the substance and complexity to offer three decades of drinking pleasure. This is a superb Labegorce that comes highly recommended. (NM) Inner quote mark (2/2018)

One of the best Bordeaux that I've had in over a month and also an extremely good value. A big plush nose of round (and rich) red and black fruits with light scents of oak and menthol. On the palate, rich, with an almost cassis-like fruit, chocolate cherry, baking spices, and structured tannins. Just simply, in a word, wonderful. Also a perfect pick as a birthyear wine for those parents/friends looking for such. This one will go the distance and once again, the price is stupidly affordable. Don't miss out!

2015 Labegorce is drinking wonderfully right now! Notes of Dark fruit and violets show brightly upfront with mushroom, tobacco, and oak spice notes slowly fading in-mid palate. Medium-bodied and smooth with a pleasantly long finish. A highly recommended wine from a fantastic producer!

Labegorce has gone from an old-school favorite to one of the most exciting producers in Margaux. Although they made their mark with the '14, the '15 left an indelible impression (and watch out for the '16!). Deep dark red and black fruits show through on the opulent aromas, highlighted by a slight earthiness. The palate is massively structured and while powerful red fruits flavors nearly make the wine imposing, it finishes with incredible grace, refinement, and a striking minerality. This is a serious Margaux at a "satellite" price. It will be best in a few years and be enjoyable for the next twenty.
