2016 Domaine des Carlines Chardonnay/Savagnin "La Vouivre" Côtes du Jura Blanc

SKU #1382589

A new addition to the K&L inventory and to the Jura AOC as a whole, Patrick Ligeron's Domaine des Carlines is quickly making an impression not only on Jura geeks, but also on fans of terroir in general. The domaine vineyard holdings lie partly within the Château-Chalone sub-AOC, each one delivering its own particular expression of the Chardonnay and/or Savagnin grapes. The La Vouivre is a vineyard blend of the domaine's four named parcels - En Beaumont, Le Calvaire, En Lya, and Trémoulette. The composition is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Savagnin. All the wines of Domaine des Carlines are aged 12-15 months in barrel with spontaneous malolactic fermentation.

This smells just a touch leesy before the flavors of sweet pear take over and mingle with a sparkling minerality. A whisper of clarified butter shows up on the cleansing finish of this interesting and tasty wine.

Made in what is known as the ouillé style (topped off) – Jura is known for making more oxidative nuttier whites – this is fresh and tense with roasted pear and mineral notes. A wonderful introduction to the region. We also have four single vineyard wines which are equally exceptional.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
