2015 Val delle Rose "Aurelio" Toscana

SKU #1339332 95 points James Suckling

A glorious red with intense and focused blackberry character and hints of wet earth. Bark and chocolate, too. Full body, layered and dense. A great wine. 100% Merlot. Drink in 2020 but already fascinating. (8/2017)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The very cheerful and attractive 2015 Maremma Toscana Aurelio is 95% Merlot with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in oak for one year. Some 20,000 bottles were produced. The wine is bold and contemporary with the soft and velvety cherry flavors you can expect from the warm-climate winemaking that characterizes the Tuscan coastline. Part of the greater Famiglia Cecchi estates, Val Delle Rose boasts a 195-hectare organically farmed vineyard in the Maremma area of southern Tuscany. This is the pride and joy of the Cecchi family, and the property has benefited from important investments to the vines and the winery in recent years. The area enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate much like you would find in southern Italian regions such as Sicily and Puglia. (ML) (11/2017)

K&L Notes

Modeled after the brilliant Merlots of Tuscany (or top-tier Right Bank blends from Bordeaux), this is a poster child for the remarkable quality and value to be found in Tuscany's superlative 2015 vintage. From the producer: "We are extremely proud of our newest addition to the Val delle Rose Estate range. Born as a tribute to Maremma, the name ‘’Aurelio’’ is derived from the name of the beautiful scenic road that winds its way along the coastline of Southern Tuscany. A deep, rich ruby red in colour, Aurelio offers a rich bouquet of mature red fruits, intense dark spices, pepper and chocolate. On the palate Aurelio is supple, soft and opulent, with velvety tannins. Very wellbalanced and long finishing, Aurelio is definitely a standard bearer for the Maremma Toscana DOC."
