The 100% Meunier Trudon "Monochrome" Brut Champagne is anything but monochromatic in it's flavor range. The wine maintains wonderful freshness by forgoing malolactic conversion, with red apple, rosewater, and raspberry flavors snapping into immediate focus on the palate. Four years on lees adds a complimentary pastry dough note that never quite turns to confectionary, instead staying on the savory side. Meunier has never looked so good.

By omitting malolactic fermentation, this 100% Meunier statement retains lovely notes of crisp linens and golden delicious apples on the nose - savory flavors of bakery dough and *mild* white button mushroom are present, but never veer too far off the trail of the bright acids and freshness of this wine - a balanced single varietal champagne, fantastic!

Definitely the most unique of the Trudon wines, the Monochrome is 100% Meunier aged for 3 years on the lees, made with 33% reserve wines. This isn't a champagne for the uninitiated! It's funky and rustic, with savory notes of mushrooms and minerals. The bubbles feel fat and wild, yet there is a clean, focused quality to the finish. It's surprisingly elegant and wonderfully interesting. Absolutely try this with some aged Gouda, or if you are really adventurous, stinky Époisses.

This is the rare 100% Meunier champagne executed to delightful perfection. The extended 4 years of lees aging lends to a rich bouquet of golden apples, mandarins, honey, toast, and a hint of matchstick smoke. The richness is perfectly leveled out by vibrant acidity and toast.

This beauty of a Champagne is tastiness in a glass. So complexed with just the right amount of toast, candied ginger and red apple. This lingers in the finish in a great way with stone fruits and texture. Another delicious addition to K & L's champagne category.

This 100% Meunier Champagne from Trudon is well-named as it is a study in dark and light contrasts. The nose starts with tropical notes of bright lemon and guava, but then earthier and more savory notes come through with a little florality. The palate gets even more savory, but there's a presence of lighter fruit characteristics like nectarine and white peach. These fruit flavors culminate in a surprisingly fresh and fun finish.

My favorite at a recent staff tasting. Although every Champagne tasted was very good to fantastic, the Monochrome caught my eye. It is dry and crisp with a nice balanced body. Refreshing and lively, it is a joy to drink.

This all Meunier Champagne is made by Jerome Trudon, who used to make the wine at Roederer, both in Anderson Valley and in Reims. He returned to his family farm, and the Monochrome is his flagship. It is made entirely out of Meunier, aged for three years minimum on the lees and benefits from 1/3 reserve wines from older vintages. This is strikingly pure Meunier, with great white flowers and fresh bread on the nose and in the mouth. It is very fresh, as Jerome does not let the wine go through malolactic, and has very good length and quite a bit of minerality.
