Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750, and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2009 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the finish, which lingers.

This tiny production rosé is produced with red wine from some of the oldest living Champagnes, Meunier that is over 100 years old. These were some of the first vines to be grafted after phylloxera, and make wine not only of spectacular complexity, but also of elegance. This Champagne was made with no dosage, but because of the ripeness of the 2009 vintage and the age of the vines, it comes out tasting like a dry brut, but without any austerity. In fact, this wine is surprisingly rich for having no sugar at all. The bead is perfect, with tiny streamers and a pearly texture. Don't miss it at this price- there is precious little to be had!

A little nerdy and a lot of cool, this is a zero-dosage vintage rose from a warm vintage, something (now that I've tasted it...) I think everyone should try at least once. Solid black-forest notes punch through on the nose and palate, but are balanced against a zippy citrus line that marks the edge. a great flavor profile with the medium weight mouthfeel and solid acidity.

Dilection is made from 85% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier from the oldest vines in Champagne post-phylloxera (circa 1910). Beautiful fruit jumps from the glass as raspberry, red apple, and fresh lemon. The palate holds great minerality with more red fruit character that fades into a long, dry and tart finish.

Most people would not take the risk of doing a vintage Champagne in the warm year that 2009 was. That's what makes Alexandre Le Brun's wines so fun and interesting, he makes such a small production that he can experiment and create something incredible like this rosé. He gets great concentration in this wine, thank to the addition of 15% still red wine as well as old vines. The 116 year old vines produce fruit with great concentration and length and add incredible complexity. The Chardonnay keeps this wine fresh and lifted and an elegant, medium body Champagne.

A rose champagne with zero dosage? Sign me up. The total lack of added sugar in the "Dilection" lets the richness of the fruit shine without sacrificing a dry pointedness. This wine is focused, with beautiful strawberry-rhubarb quality on the palate, well-balanced by softer, savory tones, perhaps due to the use of french oak for the entire fermentation.

This is made from 85% Chardonnay, and 15% red wine made from meunier, as evidenced by its deep ruby red color. It is not dosed at all and the result is an incredibly pure, rich, acid driven profile. It has warm creamy notes, with a little baking spice and lovely cherry/strawberry fruit with just a touch of savoriness. Delicious!

Alexandre Le Brun is a very interesting Champagne profile. He harvests on 6 acres and 75% of his fruit is sold to Bollinger and what is leftover is made for his own personal label out of his mother’s basement! Don’t be quick to skip over this one though because this may be one of the most intensely aromatic champagnes I’ve ever come across and definitely one of the most interesting. ‘Cuvee Dilection’ is Le Brun’s Rose champagne and is comprised of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier. 2009 was a warm vintage for Champagne and in turn gave this wine great ripeness, candied red fruit and a delicious perfumed nose of red berried fruit and spices.

I;ve rewritten this review a few times because I felt like I wasn't doing the wine justice. This is only the second time I have had the pleasure to try Le Brun's Dilection rose and both times I was saw how special this wine is. Coming from a small plot of vines that are over 100 years old, the depth and terroir of the wine is unmatched by anything else I've had. There is a slight savory element to the wine, similar to dried raspberries and cherries. The nose is elegant with aromas of rose and raspberries. It is pretty and finessed with the perfect touch of gentle citrus acidity for balance.

Made from a blend of eighty five percent Chardonnay and fifteen percent Pinot Meunier still wine, Dilection possesses a deep red hue, with zero dosage. Aromas of tart cranberry, tangerine peel and bing cherry give way to a creamy, but dry palate with wafts of bright, high toned red fruit.
