Yuu Baal Espadin Mezcal (750ml)

SKU #1270736

Yuu Baal is one of the best new mezcal labels we've seen from Oaxaca in the last few years, originating from the town of San Juan del Rio--one of the region's most well-regarded distillation centers. The brand (which translates to "earth" and "fire" in Zapotec) also incorporates spriits from San Luis del Rio, Santa Ana del Rio, and Santo Domingo Albarradas in what has immediately become one of the most diverse and high-quality line ups we carry. The entry level espadin expression is made from estate grown agave baked and crushed by stone using traditional methods, and the pure, unadulterated character of the aromatics is evidence of the artisinal production. Roasted aromas of earth and spice eminate from the nose, and the palate brims with subtle smoke and a concentrated blast of tangy fruit and savory spice. The Yuu Baal espadin is hands down one of the best sub-$40 mezcales we've ever tasted. There may be a new king of Oaxacan spirits.

This is one of my favorite Mezcal in the store right now and one of the best I have tasted for cocktails and for its price. The line of Yuu Baal is relatively new to us here at K&L and are a great new find and fit. This company is a negociant of growers and producers actually in Oaxaca, people who know their land and their product intimately. The agave here presents as a soft more fruity style, with a lovely elegant core of smoke and earth. Although it is smooth enough to sip on this is currently my go to for making cocktails because it is so well balanced. The entire line is worth a try, and this is the one to pick up to get you started.
